Francesca Barone
Music Supervisor, Licensing Manager, Music Business and Music Publishing Expert, Composer, Business Development, Content Rights Manager, Lecturer, Activist
Who I am
I am an independent music supervisor, a music business professional with over 16 years of experience in the industry, a musician, producer, and songwriter. I have worked for Universal Music Group, Sony Music Publishing, and EMI Music Publishing. I served as Content Rights Manager for Dolce&Gabbana, with whom I currently collaborate as a music supervisor. To date, I have managed and finalized over 1000 negotiations, including synchronizations of published songs and original song productions.
I am also involved as a lecturer in music business, licensing, and synchronization at various universities and professional schools (e.g., Università Sapienza, Università Cattolica, SAE, NAM).
I am an activist and co-founder of Equaly.it, the first organization dedicated to gender equality within the Italian music business.
What I do
I am a 360° Music Supervisor. I guide clients, directors, producers, brands, etc., toward the best musical choice, within budget and on time, whether it is a production music track (library), a “famous” song (original, cover, remix, etc.), or an original piece composed specifically. I handle music searches, identify rights holders, I negotiate synchronization rights (labels, publishers, managers, artists, musician unions, etc.), and manage licensing contracts.
On which projects
Commercials, online branded content, films, TV series, short films, social media, TV programs and themes, video games, podcasts, events, shows, basically for anything that needs music “underneath.”

How I work
My approach is very practical, focused on problem-solving with a 360° vision to find the best solution for each project, never forgetting kindness, mutual respect, and education, with the right dose of irony and empathy. Maintaining a serene and direct relationship with others, whether they are artists, labels, managers, or clients, is a priority for me: it is the foundation on which I have built credibility and professional esteem from the people I have worked with so far.
My negotiation principles for sales and purchases are based on the convinced action of protecting and enhancing the artistic work or talent, keeping a firm eye on the budget, and directing choices and decisions toward these goals.
My creative attitude naturally leads me to generate new ideas to expand or imagine projects and plan their development and operations in detail.
My education
I have a classical education (Liceo Classico G. Carducci), an economic background (Economics for Art, Culture, and Communication at Bocconi University), and a marketing education (Chartered Institute of Marketing in London). This is combined with my musical studies that began in childhood, focusing on piano, vocal technique, and production (published two albums under the name Franca Barone: “Be Kind” (Irma Records, 2021), “Miss Apleton” (Irma Records, 2016).
